Professor Garfield Southall

Garfield is a professor emeritus for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Chester, UK, and started his career there, as Chester College, back in 1984, working as a computer consultant until being appointed as a Computer Science Senior Lecturer in 1990. He undertook various roles within the department and became Head of Computer Science and Mathematics / Associate Dean in 2011, followed by Associate Dean in 2013, before becoming Executive Dean in 2017. He is a Governor at University Church of England Academy Ellesmere Port, and sits on on the board of University of Chester Academies Trust (UCAT). Enhancing the education not only of students, but those in local schools, is a major driving force for Garfield.. Garfield's research background is in programming software agents for biological simulation and has led on the development of Cyber Security and Games Development courses for the faculty. He is also a board member of the British Computer Scociety (BCS) and chairs a number of their central committees. His interests are ultra-distance trail running, cycling and music of all flavours.
